Heaven’s Whisper
6.21.25 - Conner Christenson
We live in a constant murmur of noise. From the moment our alarm clock interrupts our slumber, the world has it out to grab a stranglehold of our attention. From the ready-set-go of the morning to the Netflix and chill to cap the day, our minds have become wired to crave input and the sense of being connected to the world. The loudest voices have become our source of truth. As a result, we’re losing the ability to slow down and reason for ourselves. What if though, all this time our search has been filtered through the wrong lens? What if, our true connection was just a whisper away?
I think back to elementary school days and the game, “Telephone”. All the kids get put in a straight line. The teacher whispers a phrase or word to the first person. Then one by one, each person whispers that same message to the next one. The ultimate goal is for the last person in line to successfully receive and announce the message back to the teacher. As a kid, it felt so rare that our class ever completed that goal. Whether it was someone mumbling, another who had trouble hearing, or the class clown who messed it up on purpose, we usually failed the mission. It required stillness, trust, and leaning into one another. As adults, our vantage point might have changed, but our struggle remains the same. We've become so distracted in our little world that we don’t even realize the tug on our hearts and whisper in our ears by the King of the Universe, who is calling our name.
If you are going to whisper to someone, you have to lean in close. We never whisper to strangers but rather to those we hold the dearest. God’s whisper works the same way. He whispers to those He loves. God is omnipotent, meaning He has all power and authority over this world. Yet, what He most desires with us is a relationship. That is why He chooses to work in the whisper. It requires us to stop, lean into, and fall face first into His outstretched arms. Dig in deeper. Read God’s Word. Spend time praying that God would open the eyes of your heart to His will, not yours. Psalm 46:10 says it best, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Don’t get me wrong, I love when God’s miraculous power is on full display. A red-sea parting, addiction-breaking, and cancer-free healing are acts only God can do! However, I believe that God is often working right in the middle of our miracles. My prayer is that we would see God in the “not yet”. Would we be people who visit the hurting, make meals for the sick, and love on the lonely. I believe that God gives us nudges throughout the day to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Would we be attentive and obedient to that call. Not just attentive with our ears, but also with our hearts.
Lastly, would we dwell in the whisper of the glory of God around us. The birds chirping, the trees dancing, the waves splashing. The rumble of thunder, the flash of lightning, the promise of a rainbow. The fire crackling, the crickets singing, the family praying. The bark of a dog, the cry of a child, the I love You’s.
Heaven shouts for joy when a soul is saved by God. Heaven whispers to us the soul that needs that saving.
